Asbestos Awareness Course

Description: Covers general awareness of the hazards of asbestos exposure and the presence of ACM in a facility. The course is tailored to building owners, facility managers, and custodial and maintenance workers who work around asbestos.

Asbestos Worker Certification Course

Description: This EPA/DSHS-approved course is for workers who disturb asbestos during removal, encapsulation, enclosure, or repair, or who may be exposed to asbestos in the course of their work.

Length: 4 days (32 hours)
Emphasis/Topics: Currently accepted work practices and techniques. Hands-on experience constructing a decontamination unit, performing glovebag operations, and creating a negative pressure mini-enclosure.

Asbestos Air Monitoring Technician Course

Description: The course is required by the DSHS for people who conduct air monitoring in public buildings. (The course meets the requirements of the Texas Asbestos Health Protection Act.)

Length: 3 days (24 hours)
Emphasis/Topics: A DSHS-approved training course that teaches general air sampling techniques for safety and health air monitoring. This course is designed for individuals who conduct or are responsible for industrial hygiene and environmental air monitoring and who conduct area and personal air monitoring during asbestos abatement projects in school, public buildings, and industrial facilities.

Asbestos Building Inspector Certification Course

Description: This EPA/DSHS-approved course is designed for building inspectors and consultants who must identify and assess the condition of asbestos-containing materials.

Length: 3 days (24 hours)
Emphasis/Topics: The course is based on the EPA’s Model Accreditation Plan and meets federal accreditation requirements (40 CFR 763 Appendix C). Includes a mock walk-through inspection.

Asbestos Management Planner Course

Description: This EPS/DSHS-approved course is for management planners and other professionals who determine appropriate response actions, assess ACM hazards, develop operations and maintenance programs, and develop schedules for response action implementation.

Length: 2 days (16 hours)
Emphasis/Topics: Covers the standards of the TELRR, including EPA and OSHA regulations; how to supply and train employees in use of PPE and supervise compliance.

Mold Assessment Consultant Training

Description: This course is designed for real estate agents, home inspectors, mold remediation companies, mold investigators, indoor air quality firms, and HVAC firms.

Length: 40 hours
Emphasis/Topics: The mold assessment consultant is trained to:

  • Develop a mold management plan
  • Prepare a mold remediation protocol
  • Evaluate a mold remediation project

Requisites: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a natural or physical science, engineering, architecture, building construction, or building sciences, and at least one year of experience in an allied field; OR At least 60 college credit hours OR A high school diploma or a (GED) certificate and at least five years of experience in an allied field; OR A Certification as an industrial hygienist, a professional engineer, a professional registered sanitarian, a certified safety professional, or a registered architect, with at least one year of experience in an allied field.

Mold Assessment Technician Training

Description: Work with building engineers to improve the structure of buildings to alleviate the worst problems of dampness.

Length: 24 hours
Emphasis/Topics: Identify and analyze air quality hazards and suggest or make improvements to the mold remediation system of a building. make recommendations on installing or improving extractor fans.
